Zillow is best known as a real estate resource. And if you’ve been on it long enough, you’ve likely encountered some listings that may have left you wondering what exactly you are looking at.

The Zillow Gone Wild Instagram page features images of these unusual homes. Some are worthy of an MTV Cribs spotlight, while others are complete head-scratchers because of their lack of logic.

We’ve collected a new set of photos for this list that’s part of our previous series. You may see something that catches your eye, whether in amazement or puzzlement.

I don't much like the bathroom, but the rest, as shown, looked pretty nice! Does it come furnished, as is? I wouldn't mind living there at all - but the bathroom is a definitely a "re-do from scratch"! (*love* the wine cellar!)

German here and over the last decades a lot of unused churches have been refurbished to become homes here. Usually they are turned into apartments for older people and not into luxury houses. The way it is done here looks nice, but it's pretty wasteful space-wise and probably HELL on the heating costs

Like many successful ventures today, Zillow Gone Wild began during the pandemic in late 2020. Its creator, Samir Mezrahi, is proud of how it became an instant hit.

“When I decided to start the account, it completely took off from the start,” he said in an interview with Tulsa World. “Then, a few weeks later, Saturday Night Live did a sketch on Zillow, which made me feel like I was really onto something.”

In another interview with NPR, Mezrahi says he took advantage of the lockdowns when people spent a large chunk of their time browsing social media.

“It was, like, prime pandemic. Everyone’s working from home. Companies are saying you can live wherever you want. So people are moving, thinking about moving, or browsing Zillow just as a bored-on-your-phone thing.

“I kind of felt like there was an audience of people out there that are also doing this.”

Did some digging (what is with these expired Zillow links, BP? Not cool), found out it was sold last year for 700 grand cash (https://www.sarasotamagazine.com/home-and-real-estate/2023/02/round-house-sold-midcentury-modern-sarasota). The sale did not include all the groovy midcentury furniture, but the owners love the place as is and plan on adding a pool in the back for their kids (when they have them). Sounds like more of an investment right now. Stunning photos of how it looked before: https://www.sarasotamagazine.com/home-and-real-estate/2021/03/home-tour-a-small-curvy-house-is-remodeled-with-midcentury-flair

Lmao! I remember learning to carpet clean like a pro. The guys who don't really clean leave those triangular shapes. If you're really cleaning you overlap your lines by 30% and leave one contiguous matte to the carpet fibers with no visible lines. Those triangle/cones come from moving to the top then angling to the side, instead of overlapping the top and pulling straight down. Y'all are advertising 1/2 clean carpet ; )

I feel there's a sad story behind this one. Like, an elderly couple lived there (probably their entire lives) and never updated anything, and have now passed away and had no family to leave their belongings to.

I don't know if I agree. The decor is 1950s but it is very crisp and curated, like a deliberate style choice. The house itself was probably built in the 1920s (based on the style and architecture) and the wallpaper, furniture, cabinetry is pristine. They have payphones used as decor (very hipster) and collect a specific type of retro TVs. To me, this feels like a personal style than the remnants of a life.

The rooms look like frozen in time, as if they belonged in a museum. But the first thing that came to mind was how a dresser with glass doors at the foot of a staircase would be just BEGGING for me to slip and crash.

Price drop! It's down to 4 million and it's in Lexington, Illinois. Gorgeous house and I love how, other than maybe the modern shower and the pub in the basement, the upgrades for appliances and furniture all fit in so well. The backyard (ha!) houses the carousel, a pool, a couple of guest houses, a tennis court, the railway, and a go-kart racetrack. You'd make your money back in kids parties: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/10-N-Spencer-St-Lexington-IL-61753/76995944_zpid/

Real estate agent Lori Largen shared a similar experience of being “inundated” by calls after Zillow Gone Wild featured her listing. It was a 2,745-square-foot house in San Antonio with a cavern in its backyard.

Maybe because the dollar is a widely known and respected currency? If you say 1 million dollar, everybody knows that´s a lot, without having to convert it into their own currency. But 1 million swedish krona? that could mean anything.

As long as there's beer in that saloon, my western-loving hubby would have lived here in a heartbeat!

Despite its popularity, many industry experts have also pointed out Zillow’s limitations. In one of our articles about the page in 2022, we spoke to realtor Jennifer LeBow and asked whether the site is a trusted resource.

“I would not necessarily avoid using it,” she said. “I would just be very clear on what to use it for. It will provide for-sale-by-owner properties as well as MLS-listed properties, which is good. However, for any kind of value estimate, it’s terrible.”

Kinda cool. The tower, which is obviously part of the original structure (build in 1928), gives it a prison feel for me, but that mural is pretty darn sweet. From the listing, it looks like part of the "Byzantine Room" painted by Nikolai Remisoff, one of only a handful of his murals that remains in existence. “One of the worst things is that Zillow is designed to make money by charging agents for showing up on a listing as though they were the listing agent,” she said. “So consumers contact the agent who pops up, assuming that that agent will be knowledgeable about the neighborhood and the house.

“Most of the time, that is not the case and the buyer ends up with an agent who cannot properly represent them."

Kinda cool looking house. I'd exchange some muted earth tones for all the black, but other than that, I dig it. Repainting is cheap (relatively speaking).

I want to be tucked in a corner watching everyone else while I take my bath. Or watching a lot of something where no one else can see me. I don't want to be elevated in the center of a room where everyone can stare at me. Talk about uncomfortable. A nice little hole in the corner of a bunch of greenery is way better than this elevated in the center of everything.

The Cunninghams on "Happy Days", the era I'm assuming this is supposed to be paying homage to, lived in an average-looking two-story house. Not really overrun with brickwork and definitely no swooping wooden walls and beams and whatever that metallic monstrosity is on the outside of the joint. This is more of an architect's idea of what he wished the era looked like, I guess.

I always assume it's a combination of: each bedroom having its own ensuite, and wanting to spread the guest bathrooms throughout the house so that you don't have to run to the other side of the large building to get to one and so you have a sufficient number of them available for your guests when you have a large party. I mean, if you have the space and a staff to clean all those bathrooms, why not? I do wonder, though, how many of those extra bathrooms are actually half-baths.

One for each bedroom, then extras (possibly half-baths) throughout the house for convenience (with a house this large, it would be a nuisance to have to go to the far end of the house to get to a bathroom) and for when you entertain (bathrooms accessible to the pool area, etc.).

A bit of a wannabe Flintstone House (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhqqdasYBlw), which is hosting a high-end pop-up sushi thingy this month, but I can dig it. No doors, though. That would be the weird part for me! Lots of marvy pics here: https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/7245-Cascade-Rd_Concord-Township_OH_44077_M43105-39750

Looks like a lot of wasted space there. Could still be quite spacious even if they added another floor instead of those crazy high ceilings.

Who wrote that caption? I can't figure out if they're trying to be funny or it was translated by AI through three different languages. Celine Dion never did any of these songs and Meatloaf did two of them but one of them is mentioned twice? My brain hurts.

Well, that's rare. It's a "Spite house". Typically built in such a way to use all available property in such a way as to spite either the city (who says nothing can be built there), or a neighbor who's being an a*s.
